So yesterday before bed I watched the movie “Pan’s Labyrinth.” I’d heard good things about it, and about Guillermo Del Toro (the writer/director). So over the weekend I bought the DVD, hoping to watch it over the holiday. I didn’t get around to it until yesterday.

I knew vaguely what the movie was about, but I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from it.

And oh wow. Instantly one of my favorite films, this movie delivers on so many levels. The story is good, the pacing is spot on, the soundtrack, the effects, the storytelling. There were a couple of parts where the tension seemed a little too forced, and the antagonist was a bit too sadistic to be real, but even that was pulled off well.

The movie is extremely violent in parts, so if that bothers you, don’t watch this movie. The language was about par for a movie these days, for whatever that’s worth. But in the gritty context of the movie’s world, both the violence and the language are almost necessary.

I definitely recommend this movie, though obviously not for kids, even though it’s sort-of centered around a fairy tale.

Go buy the DVD. Now.

And it should go without saying, but I’m saying it anyway: Watch it in the original Spanish with English subtitles. Dubbing ruins a film.

Seriously.

Well, I am just a warm fuzzball of happiness.

Best. Season. Finale. EVAR.

“When I look at him, he sees me…” … the wha …? Someone worse than Sylar? Someone new? The Haitian?

“Go back to your family. I got this.” Awesome.

And Hiro’s last line … classic!

HRG got a NAME!!!! We shall call him … NOAH.

So much greatness went into this episode, I can’t even write a coherent post about it! Wai~~

And in an odd coincidence, my lunch @ Subway today cost $6.66. The girl who rang me up apologized. I’m pretty sure my lunch wasn’t evil.

The spam, though, I’m pretty sure is evil.

… and “Heroes” season 1 comes to an end. I will be so sad.

I called my brother after tonight’s episode ended. I told him my theory:

By saving Claire, the course of history was changed. Claire stops Peter from exploding (maybe with a bullet in the head). Ted’s pretty much got his powers under control, so he’s not gonna blow. But Sylar will kill him and take his power. Sylar now *wants* to explode, to set up the course of events that lead to him becoming president, which he can now see because he has Isaac’s precognition.

But Hiro manages to gut him with the sword, either before he explodes, or before he can take Ted’s power. I’m leaning towards before he takes Ted’s power, because I think Sylar can “fix” himself — Bennett killed him once already, remember?

Anyway, I’m probably way wrong, I haven’t gotten much right so far in trying to guess this show.

And, blogging about theories about a TV show? How geeky am I?

But the real reason I started this post was because I used a line in my phone conversation with my brother that reminded me of an old web series. Before there was “Heroes,” there was: “Superheroes: The Web Series.” Which is awesome fun. Go watch it now.

So I spent a very large amount of time today geotagging my photos over on flickr.

I discovered that I find it amusing placing the images on the map *exactly* where I took them. Like, on the different parts of the campground, in one instance. That was fun.

It’s also kind of neat to be able to assosciate visual memories with kinesthetic ones (e.g., “Let’s see, I went up the 15, turned left, and I could see a railroad track to my right when I faced north … I must have been … right … THERE!”). I was surprised at how much detail I was able to recall for some of these things. And also at how much I wasn’t.

I also did my first “Orton Effect” photo today. I wasn’t able to do it quite the way I wanted to, but I think it still came out okay.

Oh, and at some point, my big toe on my left foot twisted under the toe next to it and … OW. cramp. That was not so much fun.
